Drippings Making Happy Happenings

So with all the holiday shenanigans and otherness that's been going on, I know I've been remiss in my blogging duties, so I am typing away, hoping to create some interesting reading for all y'alls.
I finally have photos (properly corrected, of course) of the large painting; from the first night laying down color-runs and then moving onto finding specific things in the canvas, bringing them out, and now, painting the actual focus.

So, there you go. 2012, already lookin' better than 2011...thank god. Oh and Gung Hey Fat Choy. Make the year of the Water Dragon, 'cause it's supposed to be a exhilarating ride.

Lots in Love of Art and such things

Started on a rather large painting-I might have mentioned it in earlier in posts, but I'm a little too other-worldly at the moment to remember-but, I have only worked this big once before, not enjoying the result. I am, of course, a little freaking worried about making a great piece because...well, I don't want to fuck up on this large of scale. I will post photos as soon as I take a few that properly represent it.
A few nights ago I got a bug up my ass and started painting and sculpting again. I have had this paper clay that I wanted to try because I want to start creating some masks, but having never worked in it before, I tried it out in a smallish piece. And yes, I know...another skull. It's not quite finished but I enjoy it immensely and the clay doesn't require the usual kiln firing (air dries), is light, doesn't have a smell to it (like oil-based clay) and is easy to manipulate, holding texture really well.

The other thing I was doing whilst sculpting was painting over bad drawings in my mini-sketch book. This is the evolution of this little pink water flower. I think it looks rather nice and is much better than what is beneath it.

So all in all, keeping busy, getting into shenanigans and such.

"It's Alive" in progress

This is the newest piece in progress, inspired by my thoughts about heart surgery, being an oddball and, really, what it is to be a Frankenstein. Before starting this, (and I incidentally do this on many pieces) I wrote down some thoughts about what it is to be a monster made from man, made by man to be a man but ultimately failing in every intention, aspiration and understanding of what it is to be human and being treated like an utter freak (which Frankenstein was), and this is on the back on this wood panel:
"Disparate parts put together to make a creature like man but wholly and truly a monster of pain-always an outcast, always persecuted, misunderstood. Feeling the weight of the world and destroyed by it."
So, this and a few other pieces in progress. Also really really contemplating where I can store my sculptural pieces before I go head-first and start on them. As always, I will do my best to keep you lovely folks updated. We will see.
